Reliable patient identification is crucial in radiotherapy. Every radiotherapy patient is different, so that treatment can vary enormously in terms of dosage and location on the body. It is essential to correctly identify each patient and ensure they receive the correct treatment. Nowadays, checks are done mostly manually by checking the patient’s date of birth or using a photograph of the patient. These patient identification methods can be error-sensitive, as these checks are not integrated into the workflow, and one can never be 100 percent certain that these steps are always executed. CNERGY has made another step forward by using a hand-palm scan connected to the R&V system. It identifies the patient through the unique palm vein profile.
